Diversity and inclusivity @ KONE
KONE as an Organization is driven by passion , values and customer centricity and is central to its strategy. The core of business is people and its customer with an “outside-in” thinking and one of the five strategic objective is “Great Place to work”. KONE has “0” tolerance to safety and Quality , which are the “High priority” areas not limited to process and product but to people processes and practices.
Diversity and Inclusivity starts at the top and it is kept simple , women employees to have equal opportunities at leadership level and its driven as a KPI at the Global CEO office. Some of the example include Global functions such as Performance and Reward, Talent Acquisition , Learning and Development, and Global CHRO positions are held by women. For a term Global CFO position was held by a women.
India has a success story too, Performance and Reward India Head is a women, R&D Design vertical is headed by a women, Global Transition Head of shared services is held by a women who was earlier heading the India Shared services and the APA communication and strategy Head is women who was earlier heading the same function in India. The success story continues in having women in powerful positions, that translates strategy to action.
KONE is predominantly a field based Organization with over 60% of resources working and meeting customers day in and day out in the areas of sales, Installation and Service , which makes us difficult to consider women for certain field based roles , however we have started to have the dialogue with the Business Leaders to consider women employees for roles in sales to start with and the pilot project has already started with couple of women employees been considered for the roles that are generally performed by men. It’s a change process both breaking the fundamental belief and stereotypes and making it work.
KONE India has a D&I committee headed by the HR Director with representation from women in critical positions in different functions across , R&D, Manufacturing, Shared services and support functions , which works closely with the Management Team to drive D&I actions and priorities on an on-going basis and establishing a fair working environment that treats talent irrespective of gender. The D&I committee is instrumental in looking at various people policies and suggest changes to keep it inclusive and provide flexibility within the working norms common for all thus making it gender neutral.
KONE is working in partnership with a Global EAP partner providing holistic employee assistance and some of work-life concerns such as return from maternity , managing dual roles both at work and at home etc , including counselling support is extended to employees to cope up with growing demands and yet remain happy.
D&I committee organized a women centric ideation workshop attended by emerging women across different functions to seek feedback for improved working environment that encourages and supports women to be able to handle challenging roles and achieve career success. One of the outcome of the program is to organize a sensitization workshop for Managers and senior Leaders to hire women for diverse roles and become a male allay coaching women for newer roles.
KONE is constituting a Male allay Award within KONE as a best practice out of AVTAR survey findings , thereby identifying leaders and Managers who will be the catalyst for change and bring about a lasting change in how women are hired, groomed and nurtured.
KONE believes in putting women on the executive table than just filling diversity numbers , it constantly makes efforts in creating quality opportunity not only in India but in global platforms as well.
