The Scenario

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion intent of an organization comes alive through a well-curated action plan that combines leadership conviction and strategy. Realizing the need for an effective roadmap towards achieving this, a leading technology solutions firm approached Avtar in the year 2019 to plan their DEI roadmap. They wanted to focus on getting diversity talent on board, including women, People with Disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ+ Community and wanted to make their work culture more inclusive of these under-represented groups.

What we did

Avtar recommended a customized intervention plan according to the requirement of the organization. The solution proposed was ‘DEI Strategy’, a customized and comprehensive set of interventions that helps the organization curate a structured roadmap to implement DEI initiatives. The interventions included:

  • Diversity Recruitment Programs
  • DEI Assessment
  • Policy Review

that helped detect the current gaps in the system and propose adequate solutions towards mitigating the gaps. The recommended solutions included:

  • Policy Updates
  • Training Interventions on Culture Building (Unconscious Bias, Diversity Sensitization Programs, etc)
  • Career Enhancement Programmes (Intentional Career Pathing For Women Associates)

The company also did a market benchmarking study with Avtar to understand where they stand with regards to their DEI initiatives in the current market context.


The interventions helped the organization set up an effective, strategic structure for implementing its DEI agenda. With policy/practice updates, they were able to bring about progressive changes within the system starting with having a diverse workforce. With relevant information procured from the assessment process, the organization was able to align its DEI vision with business goals. Setting defined goals helped them measure and monitor their DEI progress. The recruitment practices were altered including institution of a formal Back to Work Program, and policy structures revisited, for making substantial changes for accommodating DEI-focused initiatives. Subsequently, more than 50 women technologists were hired through the ‘Back to Work’ program and the company went on to be featured in the Working Mother & Avtar Best Companies for Women in India listing.
