Lt Cdr Disha Amrith to lead Naval contingent at R-Day parade

Lieutenant Commander Disha Amrith, who will lead the naval contingent at the Republic Day Parade, has said that she wants to be known as just an officer and not a woman officer.

Lt Cdr Disha, an observer with the Navy’s Dornier 228 maritime patrol aircraft, will lead the 144-member contingent on January 26, Thursday, added reports.

According to the reports, the contingent also comprises three women and five men undergoing training as part of ‘Agniveer’.

This year’s central theme for the naval tableau is ‘Nari Shakti’, and it will highlight its capabilities, especially in the category of ‘Make in India’.

Overjoyed to have realized her dream, Disha was quoted by news reports as saying that she always wanted to join the forces. She added that being part of NCC was an effort to know the forces closely and that the stint at the Navy made her stronger.

The reports also added that Squadron Leader Sindhu Reddy— a Mi-17 pilot—will be the contingent commander for IAF, and the tableau theme is ‘Indian Air Force: Power Beyond Boundaries’.
