Nina Singh becomes First Woman Chief of CISF

Nina Singh has been appointed Director General (DG) in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which provides security for airports in the country and Delhi Metro, making her the first woman chief of the force.
Nina Singh, who hails from Bihar, is an alumnus of Patna Women’s College and the Jawaharlal Nehru University and holds a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University.
Her feats include becoming the first woman to hold the top police post in Rajasthan.
As a member secretary for the State Women’s Commission, she came up with outreach programs that aimed to address women in distress across the districts.
Apart from co-authoring two research papers with Nobel laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, she was also involved in a project for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005-2006 that focused on making police stations approachable.
As the Joint Director of CBI, she presided over the investigation of high-profile cases such as the Sheena Bora murder case and the Jiah Khan suicide case. She is a recipient of the Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal for professional excellence.
